In Support Of Nurani Dunia
Emergency Humanitarian Aid
Nurani Dunia, working together with other NGOs, private companies, and Government institutions in Indonesia, is involved in coordinating relief funds for the victims of social conflict and natural disaster, including survivors of the earthquake and tsunami in Aceh. The US Government (USAID) has thus far provided $100,000 for Aceh and North Sumatra. Nurani Dunia has provided emergency humanitarian relief in many parts of Indonesia, including Maluku and North Maluku, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Madura, Sumatra, West Papua, Java, and West Timor. Other partners include the Ministry of Social Affairs, Nestle, Freeport, GE, Exxon Mobil, Coca Cola, JW Marriot Hotel, KEHATI, BMW, and RCTI Peduli.
Assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
Nurani Dunia has provided humanitarian assistance to communities displaced by social conflict and natural disaster.   This assistance includes basic needs, building supplies for IDP camps, ensuring IDP children are able to attend local schools, fishing boats and water transport between islands, and encouraging positive relations between IDPs and their host communities.
School Construction
Nurani Dunia sees the school as a center of community.   Thus far Nurani Dunia has provided for the reconstruction of both public and traditional schools in 23 communities across the archipelago.   The new schools replace those destroyed in social conflict, natural disaster, or schools in dangerous disrepair in disadvantaged communities.   Partners include Nestle, PLN, the Government of Indonesia, Pundi Amal SCTV, Bank Tabungan Negara, and Bank Indonesia.
Peace-Building and Advocacy
Nurani Dunia promotes awareness of the importance of peace-building and care of those displaced by social conflict. Media include regular public service announcements in Garuda Airlines’ inflight magazine and ticket jackets, and in PLN’s bill notification and branch offices. The Ministry of Justice and Law assists an advocacy program for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Partners include Bank Mandiri, Garuda, Angkasa Pura, PLN, and the Ministry of Justice and Law.
Ambulance Program
As part of the development of Rapid Response Units, Nurani Dunia has purchased ambulances for use in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Aceh. These are being used to provide emergency medical services, and assistance to injured overseas workers returned to Indonesia. Partners include SCTV and Jamsostek.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Nurani provides assistance to companies in establishing their own social welfare foundations. Bank Indonesia held “Humanitarian Week” (Pekan Kemanusiaan) at its headquarters in Jakarta in 2001, and other private sector partners have held similar programs. Partners include BNI, Angkasa Pura II, and PLN.
Teacher Training
Nurani Dunia has facilitated training and skills-enhancement programs for K-12 teachers in Cooperative Learning and Conflict Resolution Education methods. These training programs allow teachers the opportunity to connect with fellow professionals, and to learn new teaching methods for the promotion of the “peaceable classroom”. Partners include Nestle, General Electric-Elfun, PLN, and local governments.

Teacher Stipends
Nurani Dunia teacher stipends provide Rp. 1,760,000 per month (approximately US $190) for 19 teachers at ND-built schools in Purwakarta, West Java. These are government-contracted teachers who have a high school education but demonstrate a high commitment to education. The standard teacher’s salary is Rp. 500,000 per month (approximately US $55.00). Partners include the Untuk Muguru Foundation

Community Center Development
Nurani Dunia has rented and renovated a house in Bonang, Jakarta, which serves as a community center. The house is open to the community and serves as a place for community activities, including access to computers. Activities include English lessons and Oshibana lessons to generate income for women. Both are taught by volunteers. Partners include General Electric-Elfun and GE Consumer Finance.

J. W. Marriott Trauma Counseling and Economic Empowerment
Nurani Dunia has worked with the Pulih Foundation to provide trauma counseling to victims, and psychological education to the victims’ families after the Mariott Hotel bombing in August 2003. Economic empowerment initiatives for the victims includes providing capital for small-scale business development such as warung (small street restaurants), ojek (motorcycle taxis), livestock for farming, and houses for rent. Partners include J.W. Marriot, United Way International, and Mitra Mandiri.

Firefighting
Nurani Dunia together has provided fire extinguishing equipment to communities in Petamburan subdistrict, Central Jakarta. Partners include Delta-Female Radio Network and PLN.

School-Community Development through Integrated Agriculture
Nurani Dunia has invested Rp. 175 million (approximately US $19,000) in organic farming, fishery, and livestock programs in the district of Purwakarta, West Java. Nurani Dunia has also purchased land in this district for further program development. Partners include Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture.
